Living Ready: Understanding the Times and Redeeming the Moment
In a world filled with uncertainty, chaos, and constant change, one question echoes through the ages: "How will it all end?" This isn't a new question - it's one that humanity has been asking since the beginning of time. Thankfully, Jesus didn't leave us in the dark about the end times. He provided clear signs, warnings, and instructions not to frighten us, but to prepare us for what's coming.
What Did Jesus Say About the End Times?
When the disciples privately approached Jesus on the Mount of Olives, they asked the very question many of us have today: "What about the end of the world?" The Greek word Jesus used was "aion," meaning the age, era, or appointed time period. Jesus wasn't just describing the destruction of the planet - He was talking about the completion of a divine timeline.
Here's the encouraging truth: we're not watching this world fall apart. Though it may seem that way when we look at civil unrest and various global challenges, we are actually watching the Word of God fall into place. Every prophetic sign is confirmation that God's plan is unfolding exactly as He said it would.
How Will Deception Increase in the Last Days?
Jesus warned that deception would dramatically increase as we approach the end times. The Greek word "plane" means to be led astray or caused to wander. In Matthew 24:4-5, Jesus specifically tells us to "take heed that no man deceives you."
We're living in an unprecedented time of misinformation, false prophets, and spiritual counterfeits. These aren't random occurrences - they're prophetic fulfillments. We see:
  • AI-generated lies spreading rapidly
  • Social media manipulation
  • Political propaganda
  • Spiritual confusion and "almost truths" that sound biblical but aren't
  • People with a form of godliness but no real power or holiness
The enemy doesn't need to destroy us if he can deceive us. His strategy is distraction, not destruction. If he can deceive you, he has you in the palm of his hand.
What Are the Birth Pains Jesus Described?
In Matthew 24:8, Jesus refers to end-time events as "the beginning of sorrows." The Hebrew word "shabel" means birth pains, like contractions during childbirth. Just as contractions increase in frequency, intensity, and proximity as birth approaches, the signs of the end times follow the same pattern.
These prophetic contractions include:
  • Global pandemics
  • Extreme weather patterns
  • Economic instability
  • Wars and rumors of wars
  • Earthquakes and natural disasters
But here's the key: birth pains don't signal death - they signal that something is about to be born. When a woman is in labor, it's not a time of sorrow but a time of joy and anticipation. Similarly, these end-time signs should fill believers with expectation, not fear.
Why Must the Gospel Advance Before the End?
Jesus made it clear in Matthew 24:14 that "this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world" before the end comes. The Greek word "kairoso" means to proclaim with authority. This isn't just a suggestion - it's a prophetic requirement.
We are the first generation in history with the technology to make global evangelism truly possible:
  • Live streaming allows preaching to reach worldwide audiences instantly
  • Digital ministry enables evangelism from anywhere
  • Global translation tools break down language barriers
  • Social media creates unprecedented outreach opportunities
We can now text someone in Africa, email someone in Japan, or FaceTime someone in Indonesia to share the gospel. We're digital missionaries, able to fulfill the Great Commission like never before.
How Should We Prepare for Christ's Return?
The Greek word "parousia" describes Christ's return as the arrival of a king - a royal visitation. Jesus isn't returning quietly; He's coming visibly, victoriously, and suddenly. The question isn't whether Jesus is coming back, but whether you're ready.
Living Ready Means:
Returning to Holiness: God is calling His people back to holy living, prayer, and obedience. If you've backslidden, He's married to the backslider - come back home.
Recommitting to Mission: We must share the gospel, disciple our families, and serve others. We're called to be light in the midst of darkness, a city set on a hill.
Removing Spiritual Distractions: Anything that weakens us spiritually must go. We need to remain faithful, watchful, and pure.
Staying Alert: Jesus said to "watch therefore" - we must watch in prayer, watch in purity, and watch in purpose.
